Homebound Ministry is an opportunity for parishioners to take Holy Communion to those who are unable to attend Mass. Parishioners requesting this service may be in their own home or living in a nursing or assisted living facility or a hospital. This ministry keeps these individuals connected to Jesus and their parish community.

The Homebound Minister takes Holy Communion to one or more recipients on a timetable and frequency agreed upon between the Homebound Minister and the person requesting Holy Communion. The Homebound Minister performs a brief, scripted Communion service that is easily modifiable based on the recipient, administers Holy Communion, and, if feasible, stays to visit a bit with the recipient.

The Homebound Minister must provide their own transportation to the client.

Training is provided. The new Homebound Minister is invited to shadow an experienced Homebound Minister on one of their visits to get an idea of what it is like before they make their first visit. This shadowing opportunity is also available if a parishioner would like to see what a visit is like before committing to this ministry.

The Homebound Ministry Team meets with their Spiritual Advisor 1 to 2 times per year, but only if needed, for about an hour, usually in the morning after the 8:30 AM Mass at St. Peter Claver. We realize it is very hard to choose a time that works for everyone, so attendance is not a requirement of being on this team as minutes are published but it is encouraged.
